Awards, Honors, & Accolades
New Orleans LA
Two times I have landed a position as a top finalists for their fiction contest, and gosh, not to brag or anything but when I collected my prize of a panel pass most recently in 2017, the person who handed it to me seemed very impressed with my finalist's status.

Seriously though, this is a super fun 5 day festival in the heart of New Orleans' French Quarter. The first time I went, (with my panel pass prize firmly in hand) they put on a production of A Streetcar Named Desire that I daresay outshone Marlon and Vivien. Maybe it was the live theater of it all but it remains one of the best live performances I've seen

Liza Mattison
Writer, Artist, Worrier

Joy Farm Writer's Retreat
The Joy Farm Writer's Retreat was the brain child of Liza Mattison and a group of fellow writers who were enjoying a lively discussion one summer evening in Paris when they realized their impassioned conversation was more than just a raucous drunken affair. Indeed the idea of a salon as a way to promote intellectual discussion and exchanges ideas between artists is not simply a cherished literary tradition, it is a wholly necessary institution. At least that's what we writers tell ourselves. The Joy farm Writer's Retreat was founded with the belief that the ability to congregate in order to discuss the craft, nature, and importance of literary arts with like-minded peers is a vital part of the creative process. Liza, reared on Joy Farm's from the time she was a young pup just happened to know of a spot where a literary salon of sorts might be formed. And so, given how good artists are at figuring out the business side of anything, the project was heaved off the ground and launched a mere 4 years later. (As I hold my undergraduate in geology I just want to point out that 4 years is beyond lightning quick, geologically speaking.) The Joy Farm Writer's Retreat is the result of that dream whose seed was planted lo these many moons ago.

Silver Lake NH.
In the historic summer home of E.E. Cummings
Liza Mattison is a writer, artist, and all around winsome delight. She resides in Massachusetts with her wonderful wife in their home for gracefully aging animals and pampered hens.
When not hunting the elusive muse, she pursues adventure, intrigue and the art of mastering obsolete homesteading skills. In 2016 she began the Joy Farm Writer's Retreat, a 5 day brief residency program for writers and artists to work and stay at Joy Farm, the summer home of American poet E.E. Cummings and a registered National Historic Landmark.
She holds a BA in geology from Smith College and an MFA in writing from Spalding University. In addition to running and directing the Joy Farm Writer's Retreat, she sells her graphic designs worldwide through Redbubble.com, paints (or draws) portraits on commission, and boasts a litany of literary publications and accolades far too brief to mention here.
